Nfu Oh 56

This probably would have been better if I'd layered it over black, but I put Nfu Oh 56 over yesterday's China Glaze Custom Kicks mani.

I like it though! It's subtle instead of in your face.

I had a devil of a time trying to capture the shimmer, and the sun has refused to come out and play, so I'm afraid this is as good as it's gonna get. *sigh*

Happy Friday, everyone! Once again, welcome to all the new folks, and don't forget to enter my giveaway!

Too many pictures of Nfu Oh 64 =)

Nfu Oh 65 ended up being my gateway drug into the word of linear holos. I just got in 64 yesterday, and I am now (im)patiently waiting for 61 to come back in stock. I want the green one too... whatever its number is. The same rules applied to this one as to 65 - I let my base coat dry COMPLETELY before attempting to put this on. I worked quickly because it dries lightning fast. Working slowly and/or going over the same spot twice is asking for trouble with these babies. Here's what she looks like in my light box:

This is two coats of holo, then my top coat, then another coat of holo. My top coat tends to diffuse the holo effect, but I also want the polish to not chip, so that's my solution to both problems. The sun peeked out this morning, so here she is in sunlight:

Such a beauty! Yes, far too many pictures, but you know my motto:  It's my blog, I can do what I want! And I'm sure nobody is really complaining about too many pictures of the magic rainbow polish. =)

Hope your weekend is going well, and thanks for stopping by! Pin It

Mermaid Nails! Featuring Catrice I Sea You + Nfu Oh 52

This week has been mythical creatures week over at the nail boards, but I just couldn't seem to get my act together to do a themed mani until today. Today's theme was mermaids, and I used Catrice I Sea You and Nfu Oh 52.

It was admittedly a loose interpretation of the theme. I Sea You! has always made me think of mermaids. The color itself makes me think of them, and I can just imagine mermaids popping up out of the waves and shouting, "I see you!" Yes, that's what it looks like in my head. And Mary Janice Davidson's mermaid trilogy didn't help anything.

I added accent nails in Nfu Oh 52, which represents both the changing colors underwater and the scales of a mermaid's tail.

I absolutely love this combination. The Catrice is fabulous, great formula and I love, love, love the brush. I love any polish where I go to do cleanup afterwards and realize that I barely made a mess at all.

And the Nfu Oh is, of course, amazing. Their flakies are some of my favorite things on the planet.

This was just perfect for both my mood and for the nail board challenge. It makes me happy every time I glance down at my hands, and really, that's what this is all about. =)

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Nfu Oh 65 - Why Did I Wait So Long to Try This?!

There are some lacquerheads out there who hate holo polishes. I'm not one of them. I love them, in fact. I've always loved the more scattered holos, a la OPI DS Extravagance, and like the China Glaze Tronica collection. I would hear (read) the other girls rave about the linear holos, the ones that really create rainbows on your nails, and I was unmoved. I have China Glaze DV8, and I love it, but I never really had any ambition to own more like it. That was true until my buddy Cilucia over at Spaz & Squee posted her pictures of Nfu Oh 65. I ordered it that very night. I know you're reading this. THIS IS YOUR FAULT! >.<

Yeah, so. My new BFF Nfu Oh 65 looks quite unassuming in the bottle. It just looks like a shimmery light blue. This is how she looks under fluorescent light.

Pretty, right? Kind of a light silvery, shimmery blue. I actually quite like her, even in her most sedate state. But let's see what happens when a little light gets involved. This is how she looks under incandescent light, so this is what I've been seeing on my nails all day here at my house.

Oh, hai! Rainbows!!

I'd heard horror stories about what a nightmare these polishes are to apply. Nfu Oh makes a special aqua base coat to use with these girls, but it is perpetually out of stock. Also, many top coats will dull the effect of the holo, so I didn't want that to happen. However, they're also known for being very chippy, and I didn't want THAT to happen either.

No way was I waiting to get some sort of aqua base coat, so I gave it a whirl with my normal base coat, Pro FX Epoxy Bond. I let it dry completely before I attempted to put the polish on my nails. You have to work fast with these because they dry VERY fast. Thankfully I have a lot of experience with finicky polishes, as I've worn a lot of mattes and neons, and the same rules apply to them.

You have to work fast. You have to use as few strokes as possible because going over the same spot more than once is a recipe for disaster. I did my first coat, then let that completely dry - which doesn't take long, just a few minutes. Then I did the second coat the same way. I had minimal dragging and lumping and all in all, I have to say the experience wasn't nearly as bad as what I had braced myself for.

I tried out my Pro FX quick dry top coat on one nail, and the holo diffused... a lot. Really a lot. So I redid that nail and tried my Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. That was better, but I still wasn't thrilled. I ended up doing one coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri, then following it with another coat of the holo. That way the polish is protected, but I've got the holo with nothing on top of it so it can sparkle its little heart out. I've had the polish on for almost 24 hours now, and it's still intact. This is good. =)

I did the mani at night and I was already oohing and ahhing over how she looks. When I got up this morning, I went outside to see how she does in the sun.

O.O

I repeat... O.O

Absolutely incredible. After I got over my shock, I tried to take some pics and was failing miserably. Thankfully my lemming creating buddy is also my photography guru, and she taught me how to use my camera, and so I am able to show you guys just how incredible this polish is.

The moral of the story is... I want more of these. A lot more. O.O

Thanks for stopping by, and for subjecting yourselves to my rambling. =D

Nfu Oh GS14

Nfu Oh makes the most crazy amazing polishes, and GS14 is no exception. It's a thicker black jelly that is absolutely PACKED with holographic glitter. I had to take these photos outside because my lightbox simply couldn't capture it. And even being out in full sun, these pics don't do it justice.

Wow, right? I squeed when I took it out of the package.

I did some experimenting before I did the full mani, and it was nice and opaque in two coats. I ended up doing one coat over one coat of Rimmel Black Satin for this mani - I found that it didn't get quite so gritty that way, plus it conserves the awesomeness of the Nfu Oh. =)

I finished it off with a coat of Gelous and a coat of Pro-FX. It's completely smooth, not gritty at all. I love it!

Hope you're having a good Sunday. True Blood premier tonight, wooot! Pin It

New Ring - Nfu Oh 51!

I love making nail polish jewelry, I swear.

There's not that much to say, other than that it's stunning, both on the nail and as a ring.

Oh yeah. And to my husband and other family, yes, I have that on my left hand. No, I haven't stopped wearing my wedding ring. I just can't take good pictures with my left hand. =)

Awesome. ^.^ Pin It

Light Box Photos of Nfu Oh 51 *gasp*

After talking to my sweet friend Jen *waves*, I decided to follow her advice and make myself a light box. It was incredibly cheap and easy to do, and I took it for a test drive last night with my Nfu Oh 51 manicure. My jaw dropped when I saw these pictures. I still can't believe what a difference the lighting makes! Enjoy, and thanks for stopping by! =)
