The Great Mystery of OPI Don't Touch My Tutu!

OPI Don't Touch My Tutu! is a mystery to me on several levels. 

Mystery 1: How is the formula so perfect? Three easy coats, no streaking, no weirdness. Just perfectly smooth application.

Mystery 2: How is this so flattering on me? Even though I do wear some white polishes, they're not normally particularly flattering. But this is amazingly flattering on me, maybe because it's kind of cooler toned? I'm not really sure, but I absolutely love how this looks on me.

Mystery 3: I hate visible nail line with the fiery passion of 1,000 suns. Why doesn't it bother me with Don't Touch my Tutu? I have no idea.

Mystery 4: Why do I like this?! If you read my blog, you probably know what I normally gravitate to in the world of polish - blue, green, holo, glitters, duochromes. Sheer white jellies are really not normally my thing. But holy cow, I love THIS. LOVE. I really want more from this collection. Honestly, I've found the last few OPI collections less than thrilling. But this collection really rocks my socks. How very odd. 

Perfection. Well played, OPI. Well played.

Verity Deep Violet

I have several buddies who have been extolling the virtues of Verity Deep Violet for several months now, so I finally moseyed over to eBay to find out what the fuss is about.

Well, hello there. Deep Violet really is all that and a bag of chips, a perfect purple jelly.

These pictures are three coats. It was almost good at two coats, but since visible nail line makes me twitchy, I went ahead and did three.

The formula is outstanding - perfect consistency, goes exactly where I want it. I had to do very little cleanup because the formula made the application a walk in the park. 

I snapped a couple of pics of it in the shade too, since it does pull a bit cooler in the shade than in full sunlight.

My friends say that Deep Violet is amazing for jelly sandwiches as well, which I intend to test pretty soon! It really is simply stunning. I love it when a little brand I've never heard of manages to make something that is this shockingly good. =D

My First Jelly Sandwich

I got a little surprise in the mail the other day from a friend of mine in the form of Nabi Abysis and Stargazer 305 (which I'll show you in another post). Abysis is an amazing glitter polish with blue hex glitters and normal holo glitters. I swatched it over several shades and couldn't find anything that was really grabbing me, so the friend who sent it to me suggested that I try a jelly sandwich. I pulled out my bottle of NYX Ink and got to work. This was the result.

I totally love this combination. This is one coat of Ink, then one coat of Abysis, then another coat of Ink. One coat of my quick dry top coat made this as smooth as glass. So much depth. 

My bottle of NYX Ink is from the new NYX line, the ones that come in the bottles that are shaped like Lippmann bottles. I really thought this was the same polish as NYX Girls Inkheart, but some of my friends have told me that their bottles of Inkheart are too pigmented to do a jelly sandwich with, so I guess it must have been reformulated when they changed the bottles and the names. The formula on it is really great though, and I can't wait to wear it on its own as well.

The Nabi was thick - like super, mega thick. I had to dump some of it out to make room for enough thinner to get it more workable. It worked just fine once it was thinned, though. For folks who have issues with strong scents, beware - this stuff stinks. I've gotten to a point where Kleancolors don't really bother me anymore, but this was one stinky polish. And I could still smell it for a few hours even after it had dried. And that was with it between two layers of polish. o.O But even so, there are a lot of Nabi shades I've seen that I'm interested in, so I'd definitely try more of them.

I totally loved this mani, and I'm very thankful to my sweet friend for not only the polish, but the suggestion to wear it this way. <3

Revlon Whimsical

When I heard about this dupe for Lippmann's Glitter in the Air, I searched high and low. I searched in two states and in MANY stores. Finally last night, my searching was rewarded. One for me, one for a friend. 

So what we have here is blue and pink hex glitter, plus smaller glitter that I think is round - those seem to just be silver - plus tiny blue glitter.  All of this is suspended in a sheer light blue jelly base. The glitter is fairly sparse, though as I understand it, not as sparse as it is in Glitter in the Air. The first thing I needed to do was find suitable underwear, since I abhor visible nail line. I tried it over Misa Touch the Rainbow, which actually would have worked ok, but I found a better match in Barry M Blue Moon, since it has the same milky sort of formula that Whimsical does. This is Blue Moon as a full mani.

I used one coat of Blue Moon and three coats of Whimsical. It was actually opaque at two coats, but I wanted a little more glitter, so I went with three coats.

Whimsical pulls slightly more grey on than I expected it to, but that's ok! I love this so much more than I thought I would. 

The drying time was pretty average considering that this is four coats. It was a little on the long side, but nothing horrible. I've had issues with Revlons refusing to dry on me before, so I was worried about that. It dried just fine though. =)

It's really just kind of perfect. Light and fresh looking, so delicate.

I also have to say that I think Whimsical is such a great name for this polish. I dare say that I like it even better than I like the name Glitter in the Air. And besides it being such a perfect name, it also makes me smile every time I think of it because I'm a huge Big Bang Theory fan. And to quote Dr. Sheldon Cooper, "What's life without whimsy?"

China Glaze Dripping Wet

Dripping Wet is, without a doubt, the sexiest polish I own. Deep, dark, vampy red jelly. Simply perfection.

Sadly, this polish is now hard to find. I was lucky enough to receive this in a RAOK (random act of kindness) from a sweet girl in return for a kindness that I showed her. That's the kind of karma I love! =)

This is two easy coats. The formula is great, really top notch. I've worn it with three coats before as well, but it tends to look black on me at three coats, while at two it still looks red in most lights.

Just stunning, no?

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Purple Pizzazz

*sigh* I wanted to get pics of this in the sun for you guys. I put the polish on, the sun went behind the clouds, it began to storm, and the sun was not to be seen here again. Then I chipped it making dinner and doing dishes, so I'm sorry that all I have is lightbox pictures. Not that they're bad, but this is a purple jelly with fine pink glitter/shimmer, and I couldn't capture the shimmer at all. This is three coats. The shimmer is probably more evident at two coats, but I can't stand visible nail line, so 3 coats it was! Very nice formula, nice squishy jelly! And a cheap thrill - I got it at Walgreen's when they were 2 for $4. Hard to beat that! Anyway, enjoy the pics, sorry about the lack of sun!

Colour Alike 150

Happy Hump Day! Today I'm wearing Colour Alike 150. This is another of the polishes that I received in the awesome swap that I mentioned in this post. Colour Alike 150 is a gorgeous medium royal blue that I would say is halfway between a creme and a jelly.

The formula is really top notch, absolutely perfect. It went exactly where I wanted it to go, and I had to do very little cleanup. Perfect coverage in two coats, and it dries to a squishy jelly-like finish.

I adore this polish. I couldn't stop looking at my nails last night when I put it on, and that's saying something for a simple creme polish! =) And one more pic, guest starring my Nfu Oh 51 ring!
