FingerPaints Hipnotic

Yay, more magnetics! Even though they are everywhere, I'm not tired of magnetic polishes yet. I was at Sally's the other night, and I picked up a couple of the new Finger Paints magnetics. I'll mention right off the bat that these appear to be completely identical to the Color Club Magnetic Force polishes. The bottles, the magnets, even the names are the same. So if you have those, you really don't need these because I am certain they are the same exact polishes, just with different brand names on the bottles.

So with that out of the way, here's what we have. Hipnotic is an absolutely lovely berry shade. The formula and brush are both fab, no complaints whatsoever.

One of the things I like the most about these is the magnet. Each polish comes with one (though they do all appear to be the same wavy pattern), and I especially like that the magnet is housed in an overcap that comes off. This makes it super easy to use, rather than fighting a magnet that's actually at the end of the brush like the Layla magnetics.

Likewise, I really like that the magnet has the little step to help with positioning. I had a really easy time both centering the magnet over my nail AND making sure I didn't touch the magnet to my wet polish. Awesomely awkward one hand pose showing the magnet over my nail:

I held the magnet over each nail for about 20 seconds. I think the pattern was forming faster than that, but I wanted to give it plenty of time. It worked great, no complaints at all.

If you're not over the magnetics thing yet, now is a good time to pick these up at Sally's, since all polishes are B2G1 for the entire month of April. =)

Nubar Moon Eclipse

Moon Eclipse is the polish formerly known as Moonshadow. I think Moonshadow was a much better name... but I digress. The polish is beautiful no matter what it's called.

I love me a good multichrome, and Nubar makes some of the best. The base color on Moon Eclipse is a deep, rich, smoky berry that shifts to a chocolatey brown and over into a bronzey type shade. I've heard that you can also get it to shift to a greenish shade, but I didn't have any luck getting that to come out to play.

This is three coats. Two was almost enough, but it was a little sheer at two coats. Three was perfect.

Moon Eclipse is a little watery and had a tendency to pool at my cuticles, but I should have been on the lookout for that since it seems like a lot of my duochromes have that problem. Other than that though, the formula was pretty good.

The sun came out today, so I was able to get some sunshine shots of this beauty too.

So amazingly beautiful. *sigh*

Catrice Dark Lavender - Which Is Not Lavender At All

Yeah, so. Meet my nubs.

My middle fingernail on my left hand was getting... weird. Wonky. Like it was wanting to flare out on the side. I've been fighting it for about two weeks now. Then the corner started acting like it wanted to break, which my nails pretty much never do.

So I decided to take them way back and kind of let that nail reset. Well. I got carried away. I went too far. They were actually painful last night, and my nail beds were (still are, in fact) sticking out past the tips of my fingers. I took some pics of that too, but I won't post them cause I don't want to gross people out. >.<

Anywhoo. I was so mad at myself that I almost went to bed without polish on, then I decided that I would wear this little gem that I got as a swap extra, Catrice Dark Lavender.

Does this look lavender to you? Yeah, me either. It's beautiful though, SO beautiful.

It's actually a teensy bit more brown leaning than these pics would have you believe. And the finish is incredibly rich, almost metallic.

These lightbox shots are closer to the color it actually is, but still... not quite there.

So there you go, a beautiful polish that wouldn't have ever even been on my radar if some nice person hadn't included it as a swap extra. And the story of my nubs. Thankfully they grow fast. *sigh*

Ulta Professional Haute Stuff - My "Conservative" NOTD!

One of my buddies over on MUA (finch96) presented us with a challenge this week to step outside our comfort zones. If we normally like things like glitters and holos, we're to wear more conservative colors. If we're the girls who like more conservative shades, we're to bling it up! This was a big challenge for me because I have precious few polishes that could be termed conservative. I don't always wear glitter or holos, but I do like the more atypical shades like blues and greens. So, this polish has been sitting in my pile of untrieds for many months now. Honestly, I'm not even sure why I bought it. 

Ulta Professional Haute Stuff is a deep berry shade, not quite pink, not quite red. The formula is what I expect from Ulta polishes - this is to say creamy and easy to work with, two easy coats, no problems. Here she is:

I plan to swatch more of my Ulta polishes for you guys soon. I see a lot of questions about them, and there's not really much out there as far as swatches. I love all the ones I have, and I look forward to sharing them with you all!
